LIFT OFF WITH READING
The sky’s the limit !!
Reading Rockets volunteers read age-appropriate books to Pre-K and Kindergarten children in their schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, Head Start, and in the libraries to get the children ready to read by the time they enter Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Studies show that gaining literacy skills early makes all the difference in a child’s ability to succeed in school and in life. It is easy to become a Reading Rockets Volunteer: get a background check, complete a training session, and apply for where you would like to read.
IT IS EASY TO BECOME A READING ROCKET
Because our youngest citizens are precious and their safety is most important, all Reading Rockets Volunteers must have a mentor background check from Glynn County Schools to become certified. Pick up a Background Check Form for mentors at the Board of Education and follow the instructions. For a small fee, you can take the first step toward becoming a Volunteer.
COMPLETE A TRAINING SESSION
Your completed Background Check is your ticket to training. To reserve a convenient time for your 1-hour training, call or email Geri Lynn Mullis at the Marshes of Glynn Libraries at (912) 279-3734 or email: email@example.com
SUBMIT AN OFFICIAL APPLICATION FORM
At the end of your training session, you will be a certified Reading Rockets Volunteer Reader! You will be given an application form to complete and submit. A coordinator will then call you to discuss your preferred assignment. In 2020, the Reading Rockets™ venues will expand to include all of the Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms in Glynn County Elementary Schools in support of the Lit 3, Ask Me Initiative. The Reading Rockets™ coordinator will strive to assign volunteers an opportunity to read to children at a venue that is convenient for them.
