LIFT OFF WITH ZOOMING READING ROCKETS™!
You are invited to become a Zooming Reading Rockets™ volunteer reader. While Covid-19 continues to be a disruptive issue, Reading Rockets™ will resume reading to kids in the Glynn County Schools Pre-K and Kindergarten classes on Zoom starting in March until the end of the school year. Volunteers will be trained in how to read to the kids over Zoom and, to the extent possible, will be assigned to read at the time and to the class of their choice. If you are interested to volunteer, please contact Linda Muir at firstname.lastname@example.org or Jim Foster at email@example.com for more details and to sign up.
Reading Rockets™ is a Marshes of Glynn Libraries program sponsored and supported by the Rotary Club of Saint Simons Island. (“Reading Rockets” is a licensed trademark of WETA-TV in Washington, D.C.) Jim Foster and Linda Muir are the Co-Chairs of the SSI Rotary Literacy Committee and are responsible for recruiting and placing Zooming Reading Rockets volunteers. Long-time Reading Rockets volunteer coordinator, Nancy Matthews, and MOGL Program Coordinator Diana Graham will assist us as we get revved up again.
We know how disruptive the pandemic has been for all of us and the toll it has taken on children and their education, in particular. The kids need encouragement and opportunities to read now more than ever. We are happy to be able to return to the classrooms by way of Zoom to read to the kids and to help them relaunch into reading with Reading Rockets. Come join us, the sky is the limit!
