Finding Aids

The collections listed below are located in the Heritage Room Archives. The Archives are accessible to the public during regular library hours of operation. Please check in with library staff at the checkout desk if you wish to have access to the room.

Each finding aid includes a summary of the collection contents and their organization, a brief historical background, and a detailed listing of the individual items within the collection. The finding aids were developed for the Marshes of Glynn Libraries by student interns from College of Coastal Georgia, volunteers from the Coastal Georgia Genealogical Society, and contracted preservation consultants.

Vertical Files

The Vertical File Collection is housed in file cabinets located at the rear of the Archives Room. File contents are primarily news clippings, pamphlets, and other print materials collected by library staff and other individuals about topics of local importance to Brunswick and Glynn County. The Finding Aid is an index of all the individual folder topics listed alphabetically.

Brunswick Marine Collection

This collection is made up of material generated and assembled by Brunswick Marine Construction Corporation staff from 1908-1972 and arranged by material format into eleven Series: I) Photographs, II) Contracts, III) Bonds, IV) Printed Materials, V) Renegotiation File, VI) Closing Papers, VII) Clipping Files, VIII) Secretary’s Files, IX) Artifacts, X) Debenture Bonds, and XI) Stocks.

Glynco NAS Collection

The collection content covers the years 1942 – 1995 and has been organized into eight series by medium with a few thematic research files and arranged in chronological order. The eight series include: I) Scrapbook series, II)  Photo series, III) Research File series, IV) Histories series, V) Newspaper series, VI) Clipping series, VII) Publication series, and VIII) Artifacts.

J.A. Jones Collection

The collection has been organized thematically for photographs and by subject and date for the remainder of the collection into eight series: I) Photographs, II) Research Files, III) Printed Materials, IV) Reunions and Library Related, V) Clipping Files, VI) Artifacts, VII) Jones’ Project Files, VIII) Audio-Visual.

Property Records Collection

The material in the collection spans the 1930s-1980s during the times the brothers, Philip S. Ringel and Herbert A. Ringel, were involved in the local government and an agency governed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development known as the Housing Authority. Older brother, Philip, worked with the Brunswick Recorder’s Court and was Georgia’s Southern District U.S. Commissioner. Content from this period is collected in Series I: Legal Documents. There were different periods of time where both brothers worked as the Attorney for The Housing Authority and a period where Philip was the District Rent Director. This content is collected in Series II: Housing Authority.

Robert Cummins Collection

Robert Cummins, Jr. was the chief of the Exploratory Fishing and Gear Research Station, a branch under the government agency Fish and Wildlife Service. The collection was created through Cummins’ extensive research and scientific journal publications. The collection is made up of newspaper clippings, maps, photos, data sheets and correspondence, and was originally organized by Cummins into two scrapbooks and a photograph album. This order has been maintained and separated into three distinct series: : I) Motor Vessel Silver Bay Scrapbook, II) Research Vessel Oregon Scrapbook, III) Research and Discovery Photograph Album.

W.C. Little Collection

William Cecil Little was born in Kentucky in 1892 but spent most of his life in Brunswick, Georgia. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association in 1917 and practiced law until being seated as a judge. He was named Judge of Brunswick City Court by Governor Ellis Arnall in 1945 and remained in the position until 1969. The collection is arranged by theme and organized in chronological order as Series I: Personal Items, Series II: Properties and Estates, Series III: Business Documents, Series IV: Case Files, Series V: Debt Collections, and Series VI: Artifacts.
